Web Summit

RDS  |  Dublin

For the second consecutive year, Google asked WONDER to create a distinctive stand for Web Summit, a global exhibition showcasing the very latest in digital innovation. The event annually connects the biggest names from the world of technology, digital and investment, attracting over 40,000 potential buyers. Google wanted a space where visitors could relax, network and explore Google products.

Our main challenge was to create a space that communicated Google’s credentials in their field but did not dominate the occasion. True to Google’s ethos, it was important that the company’s presence was understated in order not to drown out the many other ambitious start-ups and entrepreneurs.

We took a radical departure from the 2014 design, which had a social, coffee-shop style. For 2015 we took inspiration from Google’s Digital Garage, a platform which helps sharpen digital skills for business owners, employees and students. We developed an industrial, young and cool-looking space; separate areas were built for different divisions of the brand’s team to engage with attendees.

Using features such as iron girders, roller shutters and the trend for building with shipping containers as inspiration, we combined elements with raw finishes, authentic details and props to help shape the look and feel. We also added fun interactive elements such as personalised Androidify keyrings, an interactive Scalextric, as well as a large model Android where guests were encouraged to leave feedback about what has recently inspired them.

This project demonstrates our ability to build-on, and surpass, past successes, to offer something relevant and on-trend to the audience.
